TestNG Tutorial

TestNG tutorial for Java and Selenium testers: what TestNG is and the 26 chapters in reading order, from installation and annotations to parallel execution.

Last Updated on:

TestNG is an open-source testing framework for Java, inspired by JUnit and NUnit. The NG stands for Next Generation: Cedric Beust created it to remove the limits of the older frameworks, and it adds suite files, test groups, dependencies between tests, data-driven tests, and parallel execution on top of a plain test runner.

It covers unit, functional, integration, and end-to-end tests from one set of annotations, and in the Java ecosystem it is the usual companion to Selenium WebDriver. You need Java 11 or newer, Maven or Gradle or an IDE such as IntelliJ IDEA or Eclipse, and basic Java. No prior testing framework is assumed.

This TestNG tutorial is a course of 26 chapters, listed below in reading order. Each chapter is a runnable example on one topic, and the same list sits in the Chapters panel on every page.
