7 Best TestLodge Alternatives for Test Management (2026)

Compare 7 TestLodge alternatives, with TestLodge pricing, features, user reviews, and a dated cost table for 5, 10, and 25 testers on per-seat tools.

Published on:

TestLodge is an online test case management tool from TestLodge Limited, a UK company registered in Cardiff, and was launched in 2013 by founder and CEO Scott Sherwood. It organizes test plans, requirements, test suites, and test runs for manual QA teams. This guide compares TestLodge alternatives for teams that have outgrown it.

TestLodge stands out for its pricing: every plan includes unlimited users, and plans differ by how much content they store. Most alternatives charge per seat, so this guide adds a dated cost table for 5, 10, and 25 testers, built from public prices, next to TestLodge's features, reviews, and integrations.

Key Takeaways

The best TestLodge alternative depends on the gap you need to close. TestMu AI Test Manager adds AI test generation and test execution with a free plan, TestRail is the closest standalone swap and has a server edition, Qase and Testiny have free plans for up to 4 and 3 users, and Xray moves tests inside Jira. For large manual teams, TestLodge's flat price is hard to beat.

What Is TestLodge?

TestLodge is a cloud-only test case management tool from TestLodge Limited, a UK company launched in 2013. It stores test plans, requirements, test suites, and test runs, and is built mainly for manual testing.

TestLodge Limited was incorporated on March 19, 2013, according to its UK Companies House record, and TestLodge's about page says the product has run more than 37 million tests. Like any test management tool, it is the record of what was tested and with what result.

Its help center describes TestLodge as "geared mainly towards manual testing", and its pricing page lists Fujifilm, Harvest, Open Airlines, and Wipro among its users. Typical users are QA teams that run scripted manual tests and log defects into an issue tracker.

How Much Does TestLodge Cost?

TestLodge pricing runs from $34 to $279 a month across four plans, or $30 to $250 a month billed yearly. Every plan includes unlimited users and the same features; plans differ only in stored content.

The figures below are as listed on TestLodge's pricing page on October 23, 2026, in US dollars before VAT. Yearly billing saves 10%, each plan starts with a 30-day free trial that needs no credit card, and TestLodge also offers Gold, Elite, and custom plans for larger limits.

PlanBilled monthlyBilled yearly (per month)Test plansTest casesTest runsFile storage
Personal$34$30502001001 GB
Basic$69$621506003002 GB
Plus$139$1255003,0001,0003 GB
Premium$279$2501,50010,0003,0004 GB

Every plan also includes unlimited projects and requirements. Old content can be deleted to free space, which matters most on Personal, where 200 test cases fill up quickly.

What Do 5, 10, and 25 Testers Pay?

Because TestLodge charges per plan and most alternatives charge per seat, I computed the monthly cost for three team sizes from list prices as listed on each vendor's pricing page on October 23, 2026, with annual billing and before tax. TestMu AI figures come from the Test Manager pricing page.

Tool and planPrice basis5 testers10 testers25 testers
TestLodge Basic (600 test cases, 300 test runs)$62 a month flat, billed yearly$62$62$62
TestLodge Plus (3,000 test cases, 1,000 test runs)$125 a month flat, billed yearly$125$125$125
TestMu AI Test Manager Premium$49 per seat, billed annually$245$490$1,225
TestRail Essentials$22 per user, billed annually, teams of five or fewer$110Not offeredNot offered
TestRail Professional$38 per user, billed annually$190$380$950
Qase Teams$35 per user, billed annually$175$350$875

At 5 testers, TestLodge Basic at $62 a month is cheaper than every per-seat plan here, from $110 for TestRail Essentials to $245 for TestMu AI Premium. At 25 testers, TestLodge Plus costs $125 a month against $875 to $1,225. The per-seat plans add features TestLodge does not list, such as AI test generation and CI result uploads, so price alone does not settle the choice.

What Are TestLodge's Key Features?

TestLodge's key features are template-based test plans, requirements with a traceability matrix, reusable test suites and cases, configurable test runs, spreadsheet imports, a REST API, and SOC 2 security.

  • Test plans - an industry-standard test plan template that you can edit, copy, and reuse, with test suites and runs linked to the plan.
  • Requirements - unlimited requirements on every plan and a requirements matrix report that shows which requirements have verifying tests.
  • Test suites and cases - reusable test cases grouped into sections, with custom fields and a unique ID on every case.
  • Test runs - test runs that assign testers, set browser or device configurations, and accept added or removed cases mid-run.
  • Imports - CSV, TSV, and XLSX imports for requirements and test cases, next to a Google Sheets import.
  • REST API - a read and write REST API on every plan; September 2026 updates let the test run create endpoint assign a user to a suite and set run configuration options.
  • Security - SOC 2 Type II certification, AES-256 encryption at rest, Auth0 sign-in, Google single sign-on, and multi-factor authentication on all plans.

What Do Users Like and Dislike About TestLodge?

Reviewers like TestLodge's short learning curve, quick setup, and responsive support. They dislike a clunky interface, limited control, and the price of larger plans. Capterra rates it 4.2 out of 5 from six reviews.

These themes come from the TestLodge reviews on Capterra, read on October 23, 2026, where it scores 4.0 for ease of use, 4.0 for customer service, 4.2 for features, and 3.7 for value for money. The sample is small and the reviews I read date from 2017 to 2023, so treat them as signals, not a verdict.

  • Liked: easy start - one reviewer praised a "very low learning curve", and another went from sign-up to imported test cases in under an hour through the Google Sheets import.
  • Liked: defect automation - reviewers point to tickets created in tools such as Trello when a test fails, and to support replies within an hour.
  • Disliked: interface - a 2019 review called the UI "a bit clunky" and said new users need the tutorial videos; TestLodge replied in 2020 that it had refreshed the interface.
  • Disliked: control and price - a satisfied user noted it suits teams that do not need more control, one reviewer found the premium monthly plan expensive, and another disliked test steps kept in a single field.

Which Integrations and Deployment Options Does TestLodge Offer?

TestLodge connects to 28 issue trackers, including Jira, Azure DevOps, GitHub, GitLab, and Linear. It runs only as a cloud service on AWS in the United States, with no on-premise edition and no CI integrations.

  • Jira - a two-way Jira integration creates an issue when a test fails, sets priority, labels, components, and assignee, links existing issues, pulls their status back for re-testing, and resolves them from TestLodge. It works with free and paid Jira, as an integration rather than an app inside Jira.
  • Other trackers - TestLodge's integrations page lists 28 tools; 21 are "enhanced" with status sync and re-tests, while standard ones such as Azure DevOps, Bugzilla, and Redmine create tickets from failed tests.
  • Automation - the help center says TestLodge offers no pre-made integrations with automation frameworks or CI servers, so teams post results through the REST API with their own scripts.
  • Deployment - TestLodge says it is a cloud-based tool only, and its security page places the main servers on AWS in the United States.

Teams that want test cases stored inside Jira itself can compare the Jira test management tools that run as Marketplace apps.

Why Do Teams Look for a TestLodge Alternative?

Teams look for a TestLodge alternative when they need automated results in the same runs, AI test generation, more stored content than a plan allows, self-hosting, or a free plan for a small team.

  • Automation and CI - TestLodge is built around manual runs, so automated results need custom scripts against its API instead of a ready-made CI upload.
  • AI test generation - TestLodge's pricing and product pages list no AI test case generation feature as of October 23, 2026, while most tools below now include one.
  • Content caps - plans cap stored content, not people, so a growing suite forces an upgrade even when the team stays the same size; Basic holds 600 test cases and 300 test runs.
  • Hosting - data sits on AWS in the United States with no self-hosted edition, which rules TestLodge out for some data residency rules.
  • No free plan - after the 30-day trial the cheapest plan is $34 a month, while the roundup of free test management tools covers tools with a permanent free tier.

What Are the Best TestLodge Alternatives?

The best TestLodge alternatives in 2026 are TestMu AI Test Manager, TestRail, Qase, Testiny, Testmo, PractiTest, and Xray. Most charge per user, so check the cost table above against your team size first.

How we compared: I checked each tool against what TestLodge users rely on (manual runs, issue tracker links, imports) and against TestLodge's gaps (CI results, AI generation, self-hosting, a free plan), using each vendor's own pages and prices on October 22 and 23, 2026. TestMu AI publishes this guide and lists its own Test Manager first; every entry, ours included, lists its limits. The reviewer, Abhishek Mishra, is the Technical Product Manager who owns TestMu AI Test Manager.

1. TestMu AI Test Manager

TestMu AI Test Manager is AI-native test management software from TestMu AI, the publisher of this guide, on the same platform as its test execution cloud.

  • AI test case generation - turns text, Jira, Azure DevOps, or Linear issues, PDFs, images, audio, and video into test cases, with 2,000 AI credits per user a month on Premium.
  • Two-way Jira and Azure DevOps - failed steps log defects with steps, environment, and attachments, and a free TestMu AI Cloud app works inside Jira Cloud.
  • Execution - tests run on TestMu AI real browsers and 50,000+ real devices through separate execution plans, and an MCP server exposes 22 tools to AI assistants.
  • Audit and access - an audit trail of every change and execution, role-based access down to folders, and SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001 certification.

Best for: TestLodge teams that want AI generation, automated results, and execution next to manual runs, starting on a free plan with unlimited projects and test runs.

Limitations: Premium is priced per seat, so a large group of occasional testers costs more than on TestLodge's flat plans, and there is no TestLodge one-click importer, so cases arrive by CSV.

2. TestRail

TestRail is a standalone test management tool from Gurock, now a Sembi brand, sold as TestRail Cloud or TestRail Server.

  • Plans - Essentials at $22 per user a month for teams of five or fewer, Professional at $38, and Enterprise at $78, billed annually, after a 30-day trial.
  • AI - AI test case generation on every plan.
  • Automation - the TestRail CLI uploads JUnit XML results from CI.
  • Jira and imports - two-way Jira for defects and requirements, a free Jira app, and CSV and XML import.

Best for: teams that want a familiar standalone tool with automation uploads or a self-hosted server on Professional or Enterprise. Our TestRail alternative page compares it with TestMu AI.

Limitations: there is no free plan, and every added tester raises the bill.

3. Qase

Qase is a cloud test management platform with a permanent free plan and per-user paid plans.

  • Free plan - up to 4 users, 2 projects, and 2 active runs, without Jira integration.
  • Teams plan - $35 per user a month billed annually, or $42 billed monthly, with Jira integration and SAML SSO.
  • AI and MCP - AI features on paid plans and a hosted MCP server on Teams and Enterprise.
  • Imports - TestLink XML and Testpad CSV files import directly.

Best for: teams that want to evaluate on a free plan, which Qase pitches at students, hobbyists, educators, and non-profits, and then grow into AI features on Teams. The Qase alternative page compares it with TestMu AI.

Limitations: the free plan has no Jira integration, and Qase lists Teams for five or more users, so the smallest Teams plan costs more than TestLodge Basic billed yearly.

4. Testiny

Testiny, from Mategra GmbH, is a lightweight tool for manual test cases, plans, runs, and automation results.

  • Free plan - up to 3 users and 1,000 items in total.
  • Hosting - EU cloud, or Testiny Server on-premise on the Enterprise tier, a self-hosted option TestLodge does not offer.
  • Automation - the Testiny CLI imports JUnit, TestNG, Playwright, Cypress, and Vitest results.
  • Jira and MCP - a two-way Jira app and an MCP server on paid and trial plans.

Best for: small manual teams that want TestLodge's simplicity plus EU or self-hosted data.

Limitations: the free plan stops at 1,000 items, and Testiny Server needs the Enterprise tier.

Next-generation test execution with TestMu AI

5. Testmo

Testmo, branded Testmo by Sembi, keeps test case management, exploratory sessions, and automated test runs in one cloud workspace.

  • One history - manual cases, exploratory sessions, and automated runs share milestones and reports.
  • CI results - the Testmo CLI submits JUnit XML results.
  • Jira - a two-way Jira integration.
  • AI - Testmo AI is included: AI test case generation is in beta, and AI case updates and AI test optimization are listed as coming soon.

Best for: teams adding automation that want manual, exploratory, and CI results in one place.

Limitations: there is no free plan, only a free trial, and no on-premise edition.

6. PractiTest

PractiTest is a cloud test management platform for requirements, tests, runs, and issues, with two-way Jira Cloud sync.

  • Plans - the Team plan runs $40 to $49 per user a month on yearly packs of 5 to 40 testers, and Corporate is quoted for 10 or more licenses.
  • Jira - Jira filters sync every 4 hours, or every 30 minutes on Corporate.
  • AI and CI - the SmartFox AI assistant, in beta, and Firecracker for CI results.
  • Exploratory testing - exploratory tests with charters and guide points.

Best for: teams that want structured exploratory testing and deeper Jira sync than TestLodge offers. Our PractiTest alternative page covers the comparison with TestMu AI.

Limitations: there is no free plan beyond a 14-day trial, and Team seats are sold in packs.

7. Xray

Xray, from Xblend, is a Jira app in which tests are Jira issue types, so JQL, workflows, and dashboards apply to them.

  • Jira-native - runs inside Jira Cloud and Data Center.
  • BDD - Cucumber and Gherkin scenarios.
  • AI - AI test case generation on every edition and script generation on Advanced and Enterprise.
  • Pricing - $10 a month for up to 10 users on the Atlassian Marketplace, then per-user tiers.

Best for: TestLodge teams already in Jira that want tests inside Jira rather than linked to it. If it stops fitting later, the guide to Xray alternatives compares other options.

Limitations: the price follows the Jira site's user count, not just testers, and it works only inside Jira.

How Does TestLodge Compare With TestMu AI?

TestLodge charges one flat monthly price with unlimited users and focuses on manual runs. TestMu AI Test Manager adds a free plan, AI test generation on Premium, CI results, and test execution on real devices.

How Do You Move Your Tests Out of TestLodge?

Export each TestLodge test suite and requirement document to CSV, map the columns in the new tool's importer, and archive test runs separately, because CSV imports carry test cases, not execution history.

  • Export - open the options menu on each test suite, requirement document, test plan, or test run and choose Export for CSV or HTML; large accounts can export through the API.
  • Prepare fields - create matching custom fields in the new tool before you import anything.
  • Import - in TestMu AI, use the CSV import on Premium for files up to 10 MB and map titles, steps, and expected results to Title, Steps, and Outcome.
  • Reconnect trackers - link Jira or Azure DevOps again so new failures raise defects from the new tool.
  • Archive runs - keep the CSV or HTML exports of past test runs, because run history does not migrate.

Should You Switch From TestLodge?

Switch if you need CI results, AI test generation, self-hosting, or more stored content than your plan allows. Stay with TestLodge if a large manual team values unlimited users for one flat monthly price.

Pick the tool that closes your gap: TestMu AI for AI generation and execution, TestRail for a standalone swap with a server edition, Qase or Testiny to start free, Testmo or PractiTest for exploratory work, and Xray to move into Jira. The roundup of best test management tools ranks more options, and the Test Manager documentation covers projects, AI generation, and imports.
