Sauce Labs Virtual Device Cloud vs TestMu AI: 2026 Comparison

Compare Sauce Labs Virtual Device Cloud with TestMu AI Automation Cloud, Virtual Automation Cloud and HyperExecute: browser and emulator coverage, frameworks, how suites run, list prices, and how to move a Sauce Labs Selenium suite.

Published on:

Sauce Labs Virtual Device Cloud and TestMu AI both run automated and live tests on 3,000+ desktop browser and OS combinations and on Android emulators and iOS simulators, priced per parallel test. Sauce Labs sells this as one plan with live testing and visual snapshots included. TestMu AI splits it into Automation Cloud for browsers, Virtual Automation Cloud for emulators and simulators, and HyperExecute, an orchestration cloud that runs the test script and the browser on the same machine and that TestMu AI rates at up to 70% faster than traditional grids. On list prices, TestMu AI costs less for browser automation and for emulator and simulator testing. TestMu AI fits teams whose suite runs are long or flaky, while Sauce Labs fits teams that want live testing and visual snapshots bundled into the automation plan.

Sauce Labs details come from Sauce Labs' Virtual Device Cloud page, pricing page and documentation, checked on October 15, 2026. TestMu AI details come from its product pages, documentation and pricing page.

What Is Sauce Labs Virtual Device Cloud?

Sauce Labs Virtual Device Cloud runs automated and manual tests on 3,000+ browser and OS combinations, Android emulators and iOS simulators. The Sauce Labs documentation lists Selenium, Cypress, Playwright, TestCafe, Replay and Cucumber.js with Playwright for web tests, and Appium, Espresso and XCUITest for apps on virtual devices. Its saucectl command-line tool runs Cypress, Playwright, TestCafe, Espresso and XCUITest suites in the Sauce Labs cloud and sends the results back to the platform.

Sauce Labs added ARM-native virtual devices in 2026, iOS 26 simulators on Apple Silicon and ARM-native Android 17 emulators, which its product page says start sessions faster. Each plan includes live testing, unlimited automated minutes and 500 visual snapshots a month, and self-serve plans run 1 to 5 concurrent sessions. Sauce Connect 5 reaches private apps, and Enterprise adds the Sauce IPSec Proxy and the Sauce AI agents.

What Is the TestMu AI Equivalent?

TestMu AI covers the same ground with separate products. Automation Cloud runs Selenium, Playwright, Cypress, Puppeteer and 50+ other frameworks on 3,000+ browser, OS and device combinations, with auto-healing for broken locators and Smart Wait for timing failures. To connect an existing suite, you change the hub URL and the capabilities. Virtual Automation Cloud adds mobile browsers and native apps on emulators and simulators through Appium, Espresso, XCUITest and Detox, with IP geolocation in 150+ countries. For manual work, Cross Browser Testing, sold as the Virtual Live plan, runs live sessions on the same browsers and virtual devices.

HyperExecute changes how the suite runs. Each task gets a virtual machine that holds both the test script and the browser, so commands skip the round trips between a hub and a remote node. One hyperexecute.yaml file describes the run: Auto-Split hands tests to idle machines, Matrix runs every browser and OS pair you list, Hybrid combines the two, and the jobLabel key lets release-critical jobs move ahead in the queue. Failed tests retry, broken builds stop early with fail-fast, and logs, video and AI root cause analysis land in one job report.

Why Choose TestMu AI Over Sauce Labs Virtual Device Cloud?

  • Lower prices for browser and emulator automation. Desktop web automation and emulator and simulator automation cost less per parallel test than Sauce Labs Virtual Device Cloud, and Virtual Live costs less than Sauce Labs Live Testing for teams that buy live testing on its own.
  • Suites split at run time. Auto-Split hands tests to idle machines as the run goes, and Matrix and Hybrid cover browser and OS combinations in the same job.
  • Critical jobs go first. A jobLabel of high, medium or low decides which jobs clear the queue first when many pipelines share one concurrency limit.
  • Less flaky noise in CI. Failed tests retry, tests that failed last time run first, fail-fast stops a broken build early, and on Automation Cloud, auto-healing and Smart Wait handle broken locators and timing failures.
  • AI test authoring on self-serve plans. Tests written in KaneAI from natural language run on HyperExecute. Sauce AI for Test Authoring is a paid add-on for Sauce Labs Enterprise accounts.
  • A free tier to measure the difference. The HyperExecute free tier includes 300 minutes, and Automation Cloud has a free plan with 100 lifetime minutes. Sauce Labs offers a 28-day trial.

Two HyperExecute case studies:

  • Best Egg has run 2.7 million automated web and mobile tests on HyperExecute, with its mobile suites now running at the same time as its web suites.
  • Dashlane saw individual tests on HyperExecute take nearly half the time they took on its in-house infrastructure, and its case study reports 99.9% fewer flaky tests after the move.

How to Move a Sauce Labs Selenium Suite to TestMu AI

The test code stays as written; you change the configuration. The Sauce Labs to TestMu AI migration guide covers Selenium 3 and Selenium 4 suites in Java, and the steps below follow its Selenium 4 path.

Step 1: Swap the Credentials

Replace the Sauce Labs username and access key with LT_USERNAME and LT_ACCESS_KEY from Account Settings in TestMu AI, and store them in a .env file or your CI secret store.

Step 2: Change the Hub URL

Point the remote driver at hub.lambdatest.com/wd/hub instead of ondemand.us-west-1.saucelabs.com:443/wd/hub.

Step 3: Move sauce:options to LT:Options

Keep the browser options object, set the platform and browser version names TestMu AI uses, such as MacOS Tahoe and 26, and put the vendor settings in LT:Options. The Capabilities Generator produces the block for any browser and OS pair.

SafariOptions browserOptions = new SafariOptions();
  browserOptions.setPlatformName("MacOS Tahoe");
  browserOptions.setBrowserVersion("26");
  HashMap<String, Object> ltOptions = new HashMap<String, Object>();
  ltOptions.put("username", System.getenv("LT_USERNAME"));
  ltOptions.put("accessKey", System.getenv("LT_ACCESS_KEY"));
  ltOptions.put("w3c", true);
  browserOptions.setCapability("LT:Options", ltOptions);

Step 4: Replace Sauce Connect With LT Tunnel

Start LT Tunnel or the Underpass desktop app wherever Sauce Connect ran, so tests reach localhost, staging and other private environments. At this point the suite runs on Automation Cloud.

Step 5: Compare One Build, Then Move It to HyperExecute

Run the same commit on Sauce Labs and on TestMu AI with equal concurrency and compare wall-clock time, failures and reruns. To move the run onto HyperExecute, add a hyperexecute.yaml file to the repository root and start it with the HyperExecute CLI; the Sauce Labs to HyperExecute guide shows a full TestNG example.

version: 0.1
  runson: linux
  autosplit: true
  concurrency: 10
  pre:
    - mvn dependency:resolve
  testDiscovery:
    type: raw
    mode: remote
    command: grep -nri 'public class' src/test/java/**/*.java | awk '{print $3}'
  testRunnerCommand: mvn test -Dtest=$test
Note

Note: The HyperExecute free tier includes 300 minutes, enough to run Step 5 on a real suite. Start free with TestMu AI.

Sauce Labs Virtual Device Cloud or TestMu AI: How to Decide

Run Step 5 on your slowest suite before you decide. Stay on Sauce Labs if you want live testing and visual snapshots inside one automation plan, if your mobile suites rely on its ARM-native emulators and simulators, or if your AI policy requires a vendor certified to ISO 42001, which Sauce Labs lists and the TestMu AI security page does not. Move to TestMu AI if long or flaky CI runs or browser testing costs are the problem.
