BrowserStack Live and App Live vs TestMu AI (2026)
Compare BrowserStack Live and App Live with TestMu AI Cross Browser Testing and Real Device Cloud for manual testing of websites and mobile apps: browser and device coverage, debugging tools, local testing, and how each one is priced.
Published on:
A team of ten manual testers rarely has ten sessions open at once, yet a per-user plan charges for all ten.
BrowserStack Live covers manual testing of websites on desktop browsers and real phones, and App Live covers manual testing of native apps on real iOS and Android devices. At TestMu AI the same jobs sit in two products. Cross Browser Testing runs interactive sessions on 3,000+ browser, OS and virtual device configurations. Real desktop browsers run on cloud virtual machines, and mobile sessions use Android emulators and iOS simulators. Real Device Cloud has 10,000+ physical Android and iOS devices for mobile web and app testing. The biggest practical differences are the pricing model and the device catalog. BrowserStack sells Live and App Live per user and lists the larger real-device catalog. TestMu AI sells live testing per parallel session, files bugs to 65+ tools from inside a session, and can host a private device cloud on your own network. Pick based on how many testers share sessions and which devices you cannot do without.
BrowserStack details come from BrowserStack's Live, App Live and pricing pages, checked on 14 October 2026. TestMu AI details come from its product pages, documentation and pricing page.
What Are BrowserStack Live and App Live?
BrowserStack Live is BrowserStack's manual cross-browser testing product. Its product page lists 3,500+ desktop and mobile browser combinations, including new and old versions of Edge, Safari, Chrome, Internet Explorer and Firefox on real iOS and Android devices, Windows and macOS, and a real-device count of 35,000+. Testers get pre-installed developer tools, local testing for sites behind a firewall, and Multi-Device Testing on up to four real devices at once.
BrowserStack App Live does the same for native apps on 30,000+ real iOS and Android devices, according to its product page. The page also lists 30+ native device features such as biometrics, physical SIM and file transfer, natural gestures, crash reports and logs, UI element inspection, and uploads of APK, AAB and IPA files or installs from the app stores. A Custom Device Lab has devices reserved for one customer.
What Are TestMu AI Cross Browser Testing and Real Device Cloud?
Cross Browser Testing is the TestMu AI product for hands-on, exploratory testing. One session toolbar covers five surfaces: desktop browsers on Windows and macOS virtual machines, mobile browsers on Android emulators and iOS simulators, native apps on the same emulators and simulators, ChromeOS browsers and Android apps on ChromeOS. Chrome and Firefox DevTools, Chrome DevTools for Android and Safari Web Inspector for iOS open inside the session. Testers capture and annotate screenshots, record video, share a running session and send a bug with full environment details through Mark as Bug.
Real Device Cloud is the physical-device side. It has 10,000+ real Android and iOS devices, from iOS 13 and Android 9 through the current releases, across phones, tablets and foldables. Testers install APK, AAB and IPA builds, switch between several builds in one session, simulate network profiles and GPS coordinates, and test biometric authentication. The device pool runs as a shared public cloud, as a dedicated pool for one company, or on-premises inside the customer's own network. TestMu AI also runs App Live as the manual app testing entry point on that cloud.
TestMu AI Browser Cloud is a different product: it gives AI agents such as Claude and OpenAI Computer Use real Chrome sessions to act in, while Cross Browser Testing is built for people testing by hand.

Why Choose TestMu AI Over BrowserStack Live and App Live?
- Pay for sessions, not seats. Per-parallel pricing charges for sessions that run at the same time, so adding testers does not add seats.
- Emulators, simulators and real devices. Virtual Live includes official Android emulators, iOS simulators and 3,000+ desktop browsers, and Real Device Plus Live adds 10,000+ real devices when a bug needs physical hardware.
- Bugs filed from the session. Mark as Bug sends annotated screenshots and environment details to 65+ tools, including Jira, Azure DevOps and GitHub Issues, without leaving the session.
- Real-world conditions on real devices. Real Device Cloud sessions can set network throttling, geolocation in 170+ countries, locale and orientation, and the catalog includes devices with biometric sensors.
- Manual accessibility checks included. Live plans include unlimited manual tests with Accessibility DevTools.
- Private or on-premises devices. Real Device Cloud runs as a shared cloud, a dedicated private cloud or on-premises inside your own network, for apps that cannot be tested on shared hardware.
- One platform beyond manual testing. Automation on HyperExecute, visual testing with SmartUI and test cases in Test Manager run on the same TestMu AI platform.
- A free plan to start. It is free forever, needs no credit card and includes five real device sessions a month.
From TestMu AI case studies on device testing:
- Boohoo retired its in-house device farm and now runs web automation, native app automation and manual testing on real devices on TestMu AI, with testing costs down 67% and test coverage up 9X.
- KAYAK chose TestMu AI over other cloud providers for its performance, concurrency model and support, and spent less time on user management and device labs.

Desktop live testing starts at $15 a month per parallel session on Virtual Live, against $29 per user for Live Desktop; BrowserStack's $12.50 Freelancer plan caps one user at 100 minutes. One Real Device Plus Live session at $39 covers both mobile web and native apps, where BrowserStack sells Live Desktop & Mobile and App Live Individual at $39 each. Five testers who share two Real Device Plus Live sessions pay $78 a month. If all five test at the same time all day, five sessions cost $195 a month: more than BrowserStack's $150 Live Team plan for browsers alone, and less than the $300 for Live Team and App Live Team together. TestMu AI prices come from the TestMu AI pricing page and BrowserStack prices from BrowserStack's pricing page, monthly and billed annually unless noted, checked on 15 October 2026.
For the whole platform, the BrowserStack alternatives page compares the two feature by feature.
How to Move Manual Testing From BrowserStack to TestMu AI
Step 1: Match Your Browser and Device List
List the browsers, operating systems and phone models your testers open most often on BrowserStack, ideally from your own traffic analytics. Then check each one against the TestMu AI browser list and real device list, and note any model you need that only one vendor has.
Step 2: Replace BrowserStack Local With the TestMu AI Tunnel
Install the LT Tunnel client for the command line, or the Underpass desktop app for testers who prefer a window over a terminal. The guide to testing locally hosted pages covers localhost, staging and folder testing.
Step 3: Connect Your Bug Tracker
Link Jira, Azure DevOps, GitHub Issues or another tracker from the bug tracking integrations list. After that, Mark as Bug files a ticket with the screenshot, your annotations and the browser, OS and device details.
Step 4: Upload App Builds to Real Device Cloud
App Live testers upload APK, AAB or IPA files to the app library, or install from the app stores, and then open the build on any real device in the pool. The real device app testing guide walks through a first session.
Step 5: Run One Test Cycle on Both Platforms
Run the same test charter for one release cycle on BrowserStack and TestMu AI. Compare how long sessions take to start, whether your must-have devices were available, and how complete the filed bugs were. Move the team once the results hold up.
Note: TestMu AI's free plan includes short live sessions on 200+ desktop browsers and two app sessions on emulators or simulators every month. Start free with TestMu AI.
BrowserStack Live or TestMu AI: How to Decide
Choose TestMu AI when several testers share sessions, when most bugs reproduce on emulators and simulators, or when bugs need to reach the tracker straight from the session. BrowserStack keeps three edges today: a larger listed device catalog (35,000+ against 10,000+), Multi-Device Testing on up to four real devices at once, and physical SIM among App Live's device features for OTP and carrier tests. If none of those is a hard requirement, run one test cycle on both platforms, as in Step 5, and compare.
The same comparison exists for the rest of the stack:
- BrowserStack Automate vs HyperExecute for test automation
- BrowserStack Test Management vs TestMu AI Test Manager for test case management
- BrowserStack vs LambdaTest for the two platforms as a whole
- TestMu AI App Automation as the counterpart to BrowserStack App Automate for mobile test automation
