Sauce Labs Real Device Cloud vs TestMu AI: 2026 Comparison
Compare Sauce Labs Real Device Cloud with TestMu AI Real Device Cloud: device access and control, frameworks, real-world conditions, debugging, list prices, and how to move a Sauce Labs Appium suite.
Published on:
Sauce Labs Real Device Cloud and TestMu AI Real Device Cloud both list 10,000+ real Android and iOS devices for live and automated testing, and both list real device automation at the same price per parallel test. Sauce Labs leads on device control outside a test framework: its Real Device Access API drives private devices over HTTP, and its plugins open devices inside VS Code, IntelliJ IDEA and Android Studio. TestMu AI runs Detox suites, which Sauce Labs does not list. It can also put dedicated devices on premises inside your own network and split a real device suite across parallel sessions with HyperExecute. TestMu AI fits teams that want on-premises devices or AI test authoring without an Enterprise contract, while Sauce Labs fits teams that build their own tooling on private devices.
Sauce Labs details come from Sauce Labs' Real Device Cloud page, pricing page and documentation, checked on October 15, 2026. TestMu AI details come from its Real Device Cloud page, documentation and pricing page.
What Is Sauce Labs Real Device Cloud?
Sauce Labs Real Device Cloud is a hosted pool of 10,000+ real Android and iOS devices for automated and live testing. Its product page lists Appium, Espresso, XCUITest and Robotium, plus native Flutter integration testing and XCTest plans, and the Sauce Labs documentation adds Maestro as a community framework. Large suites can be sharded across devices. Teams that need devices to themselves buy private devices, which Sauce Labs hosts and maintains.
Sauce Labs also lets you control devices without a framework. The Real Device Access API reserves a private device and drives it over HTTP and WebSockets with persistent sessions, so a team can build its own automation, debugging or monitoring tools. Its plugins for VS Code, IntelliJ IDEA and Android Studio let you browse devices, mirror a live session, install apps and run Appium tests from the editor, and Sauce MCP lets an AI assistant discover devices and start sessions. The documentation covers network throttling, biometric authentication and camera image injection on real devices.
What Is TestMu AI Real Device Cloud?
TestMu AI Real Device Cloud gives live and automated access to 10,000+ real Android and iOS devices from the browser or CI. Appium, XCUITest, Espresso, Detox and Maestro suites all run on it, and you can install builds from an uploaded .apk, .aab or .ipa file or from the Play Store, App Store, TestFlight and App Center. The devices come in three deployments: a shared public cloud, a dedicated pool reserved for one company, and an on-premises cloud behind your own firewall.
During a session you can throttle the network to 3G, 4G, 5G or offline, pass or fail Face ID, Touch ID and fingerprint prompts, and inject camera images for photo, QR code and barcode flows. The Real Device Cloud page also lists IP and GPS geolocation in more than 150 countries, and SIM-enabled devices cover SMS and OTP flows. Live sessions include Appium Inspector and native DevTools, and network logs export in HAR format. On Android, a test script can send ADB commands such as swipes, key events, getprop and dumpsys.

Why Choose TestMu AI Over Sauce Labs Real Device Cloud?
- Devices inside your own network. Real Device Cloud runs as a dedicated pool or on premises behind your firewall, so app builds and test data can stay in a network you control. Sauce Labs private devices sit in Sauce Labs' cloud.
- Detox support. Detox suites for React Native run on the same cloud as Appium, Espresso, XCUITest and Maestro suites.
- Orchestration for app suites. HyperExecute splits an app suite across parallel real device sessions, retries the tests that fail and collects logs and video into one job report.
- Mobile test authoring without an Enterprise contract. KaneAI writes and runs mobile app tests from natural language, and cloud mobile authoring comes with the self-serve KaneAI Max plan. Sauce AI for Test Authoring is a paid add-on for Sauce Labs Enterprise accounts.
- A free plan that does not expire. Five live sessions on real devices, up to 2 minutes each, renew every month with no credit card. The Sauce Labs trial gives more minutes, automation included, but ends after 28 days.
Two TestMu AI case studies:
- KAYAK ran several in-house device labs that suffered connectivity issues, node failures and downtime. It moved app testing and web automation to TestMu AI real devices, then added HyperExecute in 2024.
- Boohoo retired its in-house device farm, and its case study reports 9x more tests across devices and browsers on TestMu AI and a 67% cut in testing costs.

How to Move a Sauce Labs Appium Suite to TestMu AI
You change configuration and keep the test code. The Appium migration guide for Sauce Labs shows each change side by side; the steps below follow it for an Android suite in Python.
Step 1: Swap the Credentials
Replace SAUCE_USERNAME and SAUCE_ACCESS_KEY with LT_USERNAME and LT_ACCESS_KEY from your TestMu AI profile, and keep them in environment variables or your CI secret store.
Step 2: Point the Driver at the TestMu AI Mobile Hub
Change the remote URL from ondemand.us-west-1.saucelabs.com/wd/hub to mobile-hub.lambdatest.com/wd/hub. Web tests on mobile browsers use the same hub.
Step 3: Upload the App Build
Upload the .apk, .aab or .ipa file with the app upload API. The response returns an app URL in the form lt://APP123456789123456789, which the capabilities reference.
curl -u "$LT_USERNAME:$LT_ACCESS_KEY" -X POST "https://manual-api.lambdatest.com/app/upload/realDevice" -F "appFile=@app-release.apk" -F "name=app-release"Step 4: Replace sauce:options With TestMu AI Capabilities
Drop the sauce:options block, set the device, OS version and app URL, and add isRealMobile, which sends the session to a physical device. Without it, TestMu AI runs the test on an emulator or simulator. The Capabilities Generator builds the block for any device in the real device list.
desired_caps = {
"deviceName": "Galaxy S20",
"platformName": "Android",
"platformVersion": "10",
"isRealMobile": True,
"app": "lt://APP123456789123456789",
"build": "Sauce Labs migration",
"name": "Checkout smoke test"
}Step 5: Compare One Build, Then Switch CI
Run the same commit on both clouds on the same devices and compare session start time, total run time, failures and the debugging data each run leaves. When the results hold for a sprint, replace the Sauce Labs step in CI and move the rest of the device matrix.
Note: The free plan includes five live sessions on real devices a month, enough to check that your app installs and launches on TestMu AI. Start free with TestMu AI.
Sauce Labs Real Device Cloud or TestMu AI: How to Decide
Check both device lists for the models and OS versions your users run, then run Step 5 on one real suite. Stay on Sauce Labs if you build your own tooling on the Real Device Access API, if your team works from the Sauce Labs IDE plugins, or if your AI policy requires a vendor certified to ISO 42001, which Sauce Labs lists and the TestMu AI security page does not. Move to TestMu AI if you need devices on premises, Detox support, or mobile test authoring without an Enterprise contract.
