TestLink Alternative for Hosted Test Management

TestLink is free and runs on a server you maintain. TestMu AI Test Manager is hosted, so there is no web server, database or upgrade script to run, and AI drafts the test cases you review.

Methodology

How We Compared TestLink and TestMu AI Test Manager

On October 8, 2026 we read the TestLink README, change log, configuration file, export code, user manual and file format guide in the project's public repository, the project website, its SourceForge project page and the NVD vulnerability records, and set them beside the TestMu AI Test Manager docs and pricing page. TestLink was not installed or run for this page, so each TestLink cell repeats what those sources say. TestLink is free software that its maintainers write in their free time. Its last numbered release is 1.9.20 from January 2020, its latest commit is from December 8, 2025, and the README says a 2.x version is still being worked on. The security and compliance row is marked "Not applicable" for TestLink because the answer depends on how each team hosts it, and rows where TestLink is the better fit open with "Strong here". If a tool with no licence fee is the requirement, our guide to free test management tools covers the other options.

Three Test Manager Features for Teams Leaving TestLink

In Test Manager, AI drafts test cases, Jira issues link down to a single step, and a test run can target hosted browsers and devices.

TestMu AI TEST CASE DRAFTINGAI TEST CASE DRAFTING

Draft Test Cases With AI in Test Manager

Type a requirement or attach a file, and the AI Test Case Generator drafts each test case for you to review: its steps, the expected result of each, preconditions and a priority.

Try for free
  • Typed text, tracker issues and attached files as input
  • Press Tab in a manual test case to draft the next step
  • 1,000 one-time AI credits when you sign up

TestMu JIRA ISSUE LINKSJIRA ISSUE LINKS

Test Manager Links Jira Issues to a Single Test Step

Test Manager links a Jira issue to a test case, a test run, a test instance or a single step, and shows the issue's summary, status and priority beside the test.

Try for free
  • Mark as Bug files a ticket while you run the test
  • The Jira app lists and links test cases inside an issue
  • Azure DevOps and Linear issues link at the same levels

TestMu HOSTED TEST RUNSHOSTED TEST RUNS

How a Test Manager Run Uses Hosted Browsers and Devices

Each configuration on a Test Manager run names a desktop browser, a virtual mobile device or a real device that TestMu AI hosts, so your team installs no browser grid or device lab for the run.

  • Three configurations give one test case three instances
  • Record each step result and attach evidence as you test
  • Automated TestMu AI runs link to a case from your script

Test Manager Audit Log, Archive and Revert

Version History and Revert

Version History and Revert

The Version History tab lists every save of a test case, and Revert copies an older one forward as a new version.

Execution Audit Log

Execution Audit Log

Status, remark, attachment and assignee changes on a test instance are logged with the user and the time.

Scheduled Email Reports

Scheduled Email Reports

Execution reports go to the recipients you pick on a recurring schedule, and each report downloads as CSV.

Test Case Archive

Test Case Archive

Archiving takes a test case out of lists, new runs and search without deleting it, and you can restore it.

Exploratory Session Tracking

Exploratory Session Tracking

Track each exploratory session's status and review build history, on desktop or mobile.

Three Automation Linking Methods

Three Automation Linking Methods

Automated runs on TestMu AI link to a test case when the run completes, from the dashboard, or by capability.
