KaneAI and Gartner: The AI Shift in Quality Engineering
Gartner mentioned TestMu AI's KaneAI in a 2025 report on handing routine IT work to AI. See what the testing agent does and why QA teams are shifting.
Last Updated on:
In July 2025, Gartner mentioned TestMu AI (then LambdaTest) and its testing agent, KaneAI, in a report advising CIOs on where AI can take over routine external staffing work. Testing made that list because so much of it is repetitive: writing, running and repairing the same kinds of test cases, release after release.
This post covers what the mention was, what KaneAI actually does, and why AI testing agents are changing how quality engineering teams work.
TL;DR
- KaneAI is TestMu AI's GenAI-native testing agent that plans, writes and maintains tests from plain-English instructions.
- Gartner mentioned TestMu AI in its July 2025 report on replacing routine, repetitive external IT roles with AI.
- In November 2025, Gartner named TestMu AI a Challenger in its first Magic Quadrant for AI-Augmented Software Testing Tools.
- KaneAI exports tests to Selenium, Playwright, Cypress and Appium, so teams are never locked into one tool.
- KaneAI runs tests across 3,000+ browser and OS combinations and 10,000+ real devices.
What Did Gartner Say About KaneAI?
Gartner's report “CIOs’ Guide to Replacing External Staffing With AI, Part 1: Target Routine, Repetitive Roles First”, published in July 2025, looks at which outsourced roles CIOs can hand to AI first. Its advice is to start with work that is routine and repetitive, and TestMu AI received a mention in the report.
Much of test automation fits that description. Teams write near-identical scripts for every new feature, then spend release after release fixing them when locators change. An agent that writes and repairs those tests from plain-English instructions takes that repetitive work off the team.
What Can KaneAI Do?

Low-code and no-code tools usually hit a wall once workflows get complex. KaneAI is built to keep going: you describe the test in natural language, and it handles the test authoring, steps and assertions underneath.
- Natural-language authoring: Describe a test in plain English, the way you would brief a teammate, and KaneAI turns it into executable test steps.
- Test case generation: Drop in a Jira ticket, PRD, PDF, screenshot or spreadsheet, and KaneAI drafts structured test cases from it.
- Complex logic without code: Write conditionals, assertions, reusable variables and data-driven parameters in natural language instead of code.
- Web, mobile and API in one flow: Author web and mobile tests in the same interface, and test APIs alongside UI flows in the same run.
- Framework export: Export generated tests to Selenium, Playwright, Cypress or Appium, so they are never locked into KaneAI.
- Jira and Azure DevOps: Build, assign and update test cases from inside the tracker your engineers already work in.
- Self-healing and versioning: When the UI shifts and locators change, KaneAI updates the affected steps, and every change is versioned so you can compare and roll back.
- Execution at scale: Run the tests across 3,000+ browser and OS combinations and 10,000+ real devices.

Why Are Quality Engineering Teams Shifting to AI Agents?
Organizations are short of testing talent and under pressure to release faster, while applications keep getting more complex. Gartner's advice to hand routine, repetitive roles to AI first reflects a broader change in how CIOs staff quality engineering.
The recognition did not stop at one report. In November 2025, Gartner named TestMu AI a Challenger in its first Gartner Magic Quadrant for AI-Augmented Software Testing Tools.
For a QA lead adopting AI app testing, the practical question is which repetitive tasks an agent can take over, and which still need human judgement: exploratory testing, deciding what is worth testing, and reviewing what the agent produced.
Conclusion
Gartner's mention reflects a shift that quality engineering teams are already living through: the repetitive parts of testing are moving to AI agents, and testers are moving toward deciding what to test and judging the results.
To try it, pick one repetitive regression flow. Describe it to KaneAI in plain English, run it on real browsers, and compare the upkeep against your current script. The KaneAI getting started guide walks through the first test, and KaneAI test analysis explains failures after each run.
