What is a web testing agent?

A web testing agent runs a check you describe in plain English against a live web app and returns a pass or fail, instead of you writing and maintaining the script. Kane CLI by TestMu AI reads the rendered page, works out how to reach the state you asked about, and confirms whether it holds.

How is this different from a web automation agent?

The engine is the same and the contract around it is not. A web automation agent is measured on whether the task got done. A web testing agent is measured on whether the result can gate a release, so it carries a pass condition you write up front, an evidence pack behind every verdict, and a process exit code your pipeline reads.

Can a web testing agent gate a release in CI?

Yes, and that is what the exit codes are for. Kane CLI returns 0 when the expected state is verified, 1 on a failed assertion, 2 on an environment error such as auth or a missing browser, and 3 on a timeout. Because 2 and 3 are distinct from 1, a pipeline that could not reach your sandbox never reports as a broken product.

Is an LLM-driven agent reliable enough for regression testing?

The honest position from TestMu AI: the model is not deterministic, but the validation contract is. The LLM decides how to reach an element, and that path can differ run to run. It never decides that the check passed. A pass is granted only when the expected state is confirmed through explicit evidence.

Does it replace my Playwright or Selenium suite?

Not on day one, and TestMu AI does not claim it should. A hand-written Playwright or Selenium suite is faster per run and fully deterministic, which still matters for tight checks. The agent earns its place on flows that break most often under UI churn. Any validated flow exports to native Playwright code, so nothing is locked in.

How do I run a web testing agent at scale?
