We think the AI revolution is nearly built. It's barely begun. Drawing on the industrial revolution — its manias, its missing parts, and the tinkerers who actually built it — Magnus makes the case that we're still digging canals, and shows what's left to build and who gets to build it.
We are very early, and there is still a lot to build: we are in the stage where many of the parts and practices still need to be invented. This talk focuses in particular on the need for tools to collaborate with AI on new abstractions, and to create more autonomous systems that still keep humans in the loop for guidance and verification — with real experiences from building this at Sanity.
AGI is the alchemy of our time. We're chasing a philosopher's stone. The real prize isn't the stone — it's the chemistry we invent trying to reach it.
We're at the canal-mania stage of AI. Most of what's funded today is transitional. The durable value is the skills and infrastructure being built underneath it.
"AI doesn't work" is half true. It works — just not autonomously. The missing layer is coordination and verification, not more raw capability.
The next leg needs new parts and a new way of working. We have to abstract formerly-human craft — coding, content operations — into the leadership of autonomous systems.
The builders are the clockmakers and blacksmiths, not the gold-chasers. Systems thinkers — developers, but increasingly anyone who understands systems — turn the alchemy into chemistry.

TestMu Conf
Testμ(TestMu) Conference is TestMu AI’s (Formerly LambdaTest) annual flagship event, one of the world’s largest virtual software testing conferences dedicated to decoding the future of testing and development. Built by the community, for the community, it’s a space where you’re at the center, connecting, learning, and leading together. From deep-dive sessions on emerging trends in engineering, testing, and DevOps, to hands-on workshops and inspiring culture-driven talks, every experience is designed to keep you at the heart of the conversation.
