What Happened to CrossBrowserTesting?

SmartBear acquired CrossBrowserTesting in May 2016 and ran it as a standalone browser testing cloud. On 31 July 2023 the platform was retired and SmartBear consolidated cross-browser and device testing into BitBar. The crossbrowsertesting.com domain no longer resolves, so the product cannot be signed up for or logged into, and the TestComplete integration that shipped with it was removed from that product as well. Anything still pointing at the old grid has to be migrated.

Migrating a legacy CrossBrowserTesting Selenium suite is not a drop-in change on either destination. The remote hub URL changes, authentication moves from the old CrossBrowserTesting authkey to an API key, and screenshot handling has to be rewritten, because CrossBrowserTesting took screenshots through standalone API calls while the newer platforms capture them with the Selenium driver and push the image back to the project. Since the capabilities block has to be rewritten either way, it is worth comparing BitBar against a platform that also gives you test orchestration and a managed real device cloud before you commit. TestMu AI keeps the same Selenium and Appium interfaces, so the migration is a capabilities and endpoint change rather than a rewrite of your tests.
