Where BitBar Sits Today
BitBar is still sold and supported, but it is no longer an independent vendor. SmartBear announced the acquisition of Bitbar Technologies, then a Helsinki-based mobile device cloud company, on 29 August 2019. The standalone bitbar.com domain now redirects to smartbear.com/product/bitbar/, and BitBar is documented and licensed inside the SmartBear portfolio next to TestComplete and Zephyr. On 31 July 2023 SmartBear retired CrossBrowserTesting and folded its cross-browser and device testing into BitBar, so BitBar now carries both workloads.
That consolidation is what makes the comparison worth running properly. SmartBear's BitBar documentation covers Appium, Espresso, XCTest and XCUITest, and Flutter for mobile apps, plus Selenium and Appium for web apps and a custom option for Docker or VM contained suites. Cypress, Playwright, Puppeteer, TestCafe and Taiko have no documentation pages. Six integrations are documented, AlertSite, Gradle, Jenkins, Slack, VisualTest and Zephyr Squad, alongside a REST API. And SmartBear's Trust Center lists SwaggerHub, Portal, Explore, Pactflow, the Zephyr products and Platform Services in its published SOC 2 Type II scope, without naming BitBar. If your stack is mixed web and mobile, or your security review asks for the report, those are the gaps to price in before you renew.
