What is the TestMu AI Test Manager app for Azure DevOps?

It is a free Azure DevOps Marketplace extension that adds a TestMu AI tab to every work item. From that tab you link existing test cases, generate new ones with AI, and see the execution history of the linked cases. We launched it in July 2025, and the Marketplace still lists it under its earlier name, LambdaTest AI Test Manager. Setup and usage are in the Azure DevOps app documentation.

Which plan do I need for the Azure DevOps app?

Test Manager Premium. It costs $49 per user per month billed annually and includes the Jira and Azure DevOps Marketplace apps plus 2,000 AI credits per month for test case generation. The free Test Manager plan does not include the Azure DevOps integration. Current plans are on the Test Manager pricing page.

How do I install the Test Manager app in Azure DevOps?

Open the listing on the Visual Studio Marketplace, select Get it free, choose your organization, and install. Then go to Organization Settings, open Extensions, select TestMu AI Test Manager, and authenticate with your TestMu AI username and access key. The TestMu AI account you authenticate with must also have Azure DevOps added under Integrations in TestMu AI.

Do I have to stop using Azure Test Plans?

No. Boards, sprints, and pipelines stay as they are, and the app adds a tab beside the ones you already use. Teams on Visual Studio Enterprise or Test Professional already have Azure Test Plans included, and HyperExecute can run test cases from an Azure Test Plan as well. How does AI test case generation work inside a work item?

Select Add Test Case in the TestMu AI tab and choose Generate with AI. The open work item is attached as input by default, and you can add requirement files or typed requirements. The AI returns test cases with a title, description, preconditions, and steps; you pick the ones to keep, choose a project and folder, and save. Saved cases link to the work item automatically. Can I move test cases out of Azure Test Plans?

Yes. In Azure Test Plans, select a test suite and export its test cases to CSV or XLSX; the export carries the title, step actions, and expected results. Save the file as CSV and import it into a Test Manager project, then use AI editing to tidy the imported steps in bulk.

How do defects sync between Test Manager and Azure DevOps?

Link an Azure DevOps work item by its ID or URL to a test case, a test run, a test case instance, or a single step. The linked item shows its name, ID, type, state, priority, and creator inside Test Manager, and updates made on either side are reflected on both platforms.

Can automated test results show up in the work item?

Yes. Automated runs on HyperExecute and in your CI pipeline auto-link to their test cases in Test Manager, so they appear in the Execution History of any work item those cases are linked to, next to the manual runs.

Can one Test Manager workspace use both Jira and Azure DevOps?

Yes. Test Manager runs two-way integrations with Jira and Azure DevOps, so teams that track work in different tools keep their test cases, runs, and coverage reports in one repository.

How is this different from the TestMu AI Azure Pipelines extension?

They do different jobs. The Azure Pipelines extension runs automated tests on the TestMu AI cloud from your pipeline, as shown in run Selenium tests in Azure DevOps. The Test Manager app manages the test cases themselves inside work items. Many teams use both.
