This free tool allows you to extract tables from a text PDF into a downloadable CSV file in your browser. This tool is built and maintained by TestMu AI (formerly LambdaTest).
PDF only. Max 100 MB.
Blank uses all pages. Try 1-3 or 1,3,5.
CSV field separator.
Groups text into rows.
Groups text into columns.
Convert to CSV
A PDF to CSV converter turns tabular text inside a PDF into a CSV file you can open in spreadsheets. CSV follows the common text table rules described in RFC 4180, with rows on separate lines and fields separated by a delimiter. Upload a text-based PDF, extract rows in your browser, then download the file.
PDFs store text with positions, not as native spreadsheet cells. This TestMu AI tool reads that text layer in your browser with PDF.js, then rebuilds likely columns from those coordinates. It is built for text-based table PDFs, not for claiming perfect detection on every layout.
Extraction stays private and local. After you choose a file, PDF.js loads each selected page and returns text items with X and Y positions. The converter then applies a transparent heuristic:
If the PDF is mostly prose or has no extractable text, the tool returns No tabular data found instead of inventing a fake spreadsheet.
Try the Sample button for a real embedded sales table. The expected CSV is Name,Age,City then Alice,30,London then Bob,25,Paris then Carol,28,Berlin.
Use these steps on the widget above:
Choose CSV when you want a plain-text exchange format that any script or spreadsheet can import. Choose Excel when you need a workbook container. On TestMu AI you can also try the PDF to Excel and PDF to JSON tools for related workflows, then validate or reshape rows with CSV Validator or CSV to JSON.
This converter does not run OCR. Scanned pages, screenshots saved as PDF, and many protected print exports have no usable text layer, so PDF.js cannot return positioned strings. Multi-column magazine layouts, heavy merged cells, and decorative line art can also confuse geometric clustering. Raise or lower row and column tolerance to improve results on slightly skewed tables, and keep expectations honest: heuristics reconstruct likely grids, they do not guarantee every visual table.
All processing stays in your browser. Your PDF is not sent to TestMu AI servers for this conversion.
PDF to CSV conversion extracts positioned text from a text-based PDF, reconstructs likely table rows and columns, and writes them as a comma-separated values file you can open in spreadsheets. Upload a table PDF, tune page range and tolerances if needed, then download CSV for Excel or Google Sheets without leaving your browser.
Yes. The TestMu AI PDF to CSV converter is free to use in your browser with no signup required. You can upload a text-based PDF, extract tables, preview editable rows, and download or copy the CSV output without creating an account or paying for conversion.
No. Extraction runs entirely in your browser with PDF.js. Your file is not uploaded to TestMu AI servers for conversion. That keeps invoices, finance tables, and other private documents on your device while you rebuild rows and download CSV locally.
No. Scanned or image-only PDFs have no text layer for this tool to read. Run OCR first, or use a text-based PDF export when available. Without extractable positioned strings, the converter cannot rebuild columns and will report that no tabular data was found.
The tool groups text items by vertical position into lines, then clusters horizontal positions into columns using your row and column tolerance settings. Empty cells are preserved when a column has no text on that line. Raise or lower those tolerances when columns look too split or merged.
Yes. The download uses RFC 4180-style CSV with quoted fields when needed, so you can open it in Excel, Google Sheets, LibreOffice, or any CSV-aware tool. Choose comma, semicolon, tab, or pipe as the delimiter before you convert if your spreadsheet expects a specific separator.
Yes. Upload a PDF up to 100 MB and extract up to 100 pages. Use the page range field to limit which pages are scanned. Narrowing the range speeds conversion on long reports and keeps memory use lower in the browser while you extract only the tables you need.
