Test a multi-step quote flow through to a price

Four screens of questions producing one premium, with the coverage summary that has to back it up.

Published on:

A quote flow is a conversation that ends in a number the business is bound by. Each screen gates the next, so a break in the middle produces an abandoned session rather than an error anyone sees.

This use case walks the renters quote on the Limonade clone from the first question to the priced result.

The flow under test

A staged form needs an assertion per stage, otherwise a failure at step one surfaces as a missing price at the end with nothing to point at.

  • Each screen advances - answering a question reveals the next step, asserted by name.
  • The running price is live - $17.90 shown on the coverage screen before the quote is requested.
  • The premium holds - the same $17.90 on the result card, plus an annual figure of $214.80.
  • The coverage backs it - four cover lines including a loss of use figure the customer never entered.

The loss of use figure is the interesting one. It is derived rather than chosen, so asserting it checks that the quote engine applied its own rules rather than only echoing the inputs back.

Note

Note: Asserting that each step reveals the next turns one opaque failure at the end of a wizard into a specific one. Start on TestMu AI. Start for free

The test file

The running price is asserted before the quote is requested, which pins the relationship between the chosen cover and the premium rather than trusting the final card alone.

# Limonade 26.1: Instant quote flow

Catalog objective: complete a renters insurance quote conversation through to a price.
Key assertion: a premium is quoted with a coverage summary.

## Answer the first question
Type "Priya" into "Your name" and click "Next", then verify the next step asks where you rent.

## Answer the place question
Leave "City" on "Portside", leave the pet box unticked, and click "Next", then verify the coverage step appears.

## Choose the cover
Leave "Personal property" on "$20,000.00", "Personal liability" on "$100,000.00" and "Deductible" on "$500.00", verify "Running price" reads "$17.90", then click "See my price".

## Verify the price and the coverage summary
Verify the result card shows "Monthly premium" of "$17.90", "Annual" of "$214.80", and a coverage summary listing "Personal property" of "$20,000.00", "Personal liability" of "$100,000.00", "Deductible" of "$500.00" and "Loss of use" of "$6,000.00".

The monthly and annual figures are both asserted, since an annual price that is not twelve times the monthly one is the kind of error customers find before the business does.

Step by step coverage

Three question screens and a result.

StepWhat it proves
Answer the first questionThe flow accepts a name and advances to the location step
Answer the place questionLocation and pet inputs advance to the coverage step
Choose the coverCover selections produce a live running price
Verify the price and the coverage summaryMonthly, annual and all four coverage lines

Four cover lines asserted against a single premium is what makes the number defensible. A premium with no coverage summary behind it is a figure nobody can check.

Next-generation test execution with TestMu AI

Running it

kane-cli testmd run tests/lemonade/instant-quote_test.md

Add a variant with the pet box ticked, since that input should move the premium and a quote engine that ignores an input is a silent pricing bug.

Quote engines change with underwriting rather than with releases. Deriving a suite from requirements covers keeping expected figures anchored, and the test.md format covers the file structure.
