Kane CLIDeposits

Test a fixed deposit and the maturity it projects

The projected maturity shown before opening has to equal the figure on the receipt afterwards.

Published on:

A fixed deposit is a number the customer is quoted today and holds the bank to in a year. The projection shown before they commit is the figure that matters, and it is produced by different code than the receipt.

This use case opens a deposit on the Hindfirst Bank clone and checks both.

The checks that matter

The projection and the receipt are the same number computed twice, which is exactly the shape that lets them drift.

StageFigure
Rate applied7.10% per annum
Projected maturity (before opening)107,291.28
Principal (on the receipt)100,000.00
Interest earned7,291.28
Maturity amount (on the receipt)107,291.28

Asserting interest and principal separately on the receipt is what makes the maturity checkable rather than merely repeated. The two have to sum to the third, and a receipt that restates a wrong projection consistently would otherwise pass.

Note

Note: Asserting a quoted figure before the commitment and again on the record is what catches a projection the product does not honour. Try it on TestMu AI. Try free!

The flow as a test file

The tenure is selected by its label including the rate, so a tenure that silently applies a different rate fails at selection rather than at the maturity figure.

# Hindfirst Bank 24.3: FD creation

Catalog objective: open a fixed deposit, choosing a tenure and an amount.
Key assertion: the receipt shows the maturity amount.

## Set the deposit up
Leave "Fund from" on the Savings Account, leave "Amount" as "100000", select "12 months - 7.10%" in "Tenure", and verify "Rate applied" reads "7.10% per annum".

## Check the projected maturity
Verify "Maturity amount" in the preview reads "₹107,291.28".

## Open the deposit
Click "Open the deposit" and verify a green card titled "Fixed deposit opened" appears.

## Verify the receipt
Verify the receipt shows "Deposit number" of "FD770118", "Principal" of "₹100,000.00", "Tenure" of "12 months", "Rate" of "7.10% per annum", "Interest earned" of "₹7,291.28" and "Maturity amount" of "₹107,291.28".

The projection is asserted in its own step, before the deposit is opened, because that is the number the customer makes the decision on.

Step by step coverage

A quote, a projection, the action, and the record.

StepWhat it proves
Set the deposit upSource account, amount and tenure are accepted and the rate is shown
Check the projected maturityA maturity figure is quoted before any commitment
Open the depositThe deposit is created
Verify the receiptDeposit number, principal, tenure, rate, interest and maturity

Six values on the receipt against one action is the right ratio for a product the customer cannot exit without penalty.

Next-generation test execution with TestMu AI

Adding it to a suite

kane-cli testmd run tests/hdfc-bank/fd-creation_test.md

Add a variant at a different tenure, since the rate changes with it and a rate table is the thing most likely to be updated without the calculation following.

Financial projections are worth tying back to a written source. Deriving a suite from requirements covers that, and evidence based QA covers retaining proof of what was quoted.
