What is Cypress automation?

Cypress is an open source end-to-end test automation framework written in JavaScript and based on Mocha and Chai. With Cypress you can automate tests on browsers like Firefox, Chrome, Brave & Edge family. Cypress is known for easy to set up, faster test execution, debugging capabilities and an active community.

Does Cypress replace Selenium?

Cypress is comparatively new as a test automation framework, it supports JavaScript so it is developer-friendly. However, Selenium was built keeping testers in mind, and it supports all programming languages so Cypress will not be a replacement for testers who are not using JavaScript. Another big problem with Cypress is the lack of supported browsers, so currently Google Chrome, and Electron are the only browsers supported. Selenium WebDriver, on the other hand, is a W3C standard, and all browser creators support it by developing dedicated WebDrivers that are W3C standard compliant.

Does Cypress do cross browser testing?

Cypress can run tests across multiple browsers. Currently, Cypress supports Chrome-family browsers (including Electron and Chromium-based Microsoft Edge) and Firefox.

Is Cypress better than Selenium?

Cypress supports only JavaScript whereas Selenium supports all programming language. Cypress browser support is also limited as compared to Selenium. However, Cypress helps in faster test execution and is more developer-friendly in comparison to Selenium.
