What are the advantages of online live testing?

Online live testing gives a team browsers, emulators, simulators, and real devices on demand, so nobody has to buy, update, or maintain a device lab. Sessions open in the browser the tester already uses, include developer tools, screenshots, and session recording, and the test environment is wiped when the session ends.

Should I run live testing on real devices or on emulators and simulators?

Run live testing on emulators and simulators for layout, browser, and functional checks during development, and on real devices when the result depends on hardware. Biometric login, camera and QR scanning, and push notification delivery need a physical phone. TestMu AI offers both: Android emulators and iOS simulators, and real Android and iOS devices.

Why is Live Testing Important?

Live testing is important because it finds the problems a script does not look for: a layout that breaks at one screen size, a flow that confuses a person, or a bug that appears in a single browser version. A tester sees each result as it happens and can reproduce a customer-reported bug in the exact browser, OS, and device where it was reported.

Is live testing online reliable?

Yes. Live testing online is reliable for layout, functional, and cross-browser checks, because each session runs a real browser build on a cloud machine or a real device. Emulators and simulators do not reproduce hardware behavior such as biometrics or camera input, so test those flows on real devices before release.

Can I upload a file into a live testing session to test an upload flow?

Yes, on paid plans. A live testing session accepts files through Files and Media in the session sidebar: up to five files per session, each up to 15 MB, including images, videos, PDFs, and Office documents. On Android, uploads need Android 7 or later and land in the Downloads folder. Uploaded files are deleted automatically after 30 days.

Can I use Chrome extensions in a live testing session?

Yes, in desktop Chrome sessions on paid plans. Add an extension by its Chrome Web Store URL, or set up pre-loaded Chrome extensions that install before each session, to test a site with tools such as ad blockers or password managers. Unpacked builds and local .crx files are not supported.

Is there anything I cannot do inside a live testing session that I could do locally?

Yes, a few things. Live testing sessions have documented limits: developer tools need Android 7.0 or later, WebView testing is limited to Android 9.0 and below and must be launched manually, and Recent Apps does not work on devices with a physical Recent Apps button. Checks that depend on biometrics, the camera, or battery behavior need a real device.

Why does my live testing session not start or keep disconnecting?

Blocked WebSockets are the usual cause. Live testing sessions stream over WebSockets, so a network or browser that blocks them stops the session from connecting or drops it mid-test. Run the Test Connection check, ask the network admin to allow WebSockets for TestMu AI, and use the latest Google Chrome for the most stable session.

What network changes do we need to allow for live testing?

Live testing needs WebSocket connections to TestMu AI allowed on the company network and in the browser testers use. Add both testmuai.com and lambdatest.com to the allowlist, because some platform hostnames still use the lambdatest.com domain.

Where do I find screenshots and recordings after a live testing session ends?

Screenshots and recordings from a live testing session are saved in the session Gallery, where they can be downloaded or shared after the session ends. The test environment itself is wiped when the session closes, so anything not captured as a screenshot or recording is lost. Download any evidence the team needs to keep for audits.
